DEP ANNOUNCES STIMULUS LOAN FOR CITY OF TAVARES DRINKING WATER FACILITY

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) recently awarded $2.5 million to the city of Tavares for drinking water management. The funds, part of DEP’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) Program, will be used to make improvements at all four of the city’s water plants. The project is needed to improve disinfection and to meet current water demands.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) recently awarded $5 million to the city of Palm Bay for drinking water management. The funds, part of DEP’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) Program, will extend the water distribution area for Palm Bay and correct a public health risk. The project will allow citizens presently being served by private wells, some of which have tested positive for bacteria, to be connected to the city’s water supply.

Groups file federal appeal against Vogtle reactors

Today organizations concerned with the high costs and environmental risks posed by Southern Company’s plan to build two new nuclear reactors at Plant Vogtle near Augusta, Ga. announced their filing of an appeal in federal court to stop the proposed expansion. The groups’ appeal calls upon the court to review the site permit and work authorization issued earlier this year by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for the new reactors at Plant Vogtle.
